"Red, Green and Yellow" – a theatre that connected children, schools and two countries

In November, the Peterborough stage was filled with color, movement, and joy. The musical "Red, Green, and Yellow" became much more than just a theatrical performance—it was a true celebration of the Polish language, a gathering of Polish communities, and an experience that will long remain in the memories of children, parents, teachers, and young artists.

Due to overwhelming interest and space constraints, we held three performances instead of the planned two to allow as many people as possible to attend. Over 1,000 tickets were reserved for the event .

The theater that came to children

The audience included children from Peterborough, Spalding, Bedford, Huntingdon, Lincoln, and Wisbeach . Where schools couldn't organize shared transport, information about the performance reached parents—and they drove their children individually, demonstrating the dearth of such Polish-language events in the region. We were also honored to host representatives of the Polish Educational Society in Great Britain, who were absolutely delighted with the way such important messages were conveyed.

The performance combined road safety education with lively Polish language, song, and stage movement in an accessible, joyful, and interactive way. Children weren't just spectators—they were active participants.

For many children it was their first encounter with Polish theatre .

A unique journey of young artists

This project was also extraordinary for the acting team, who came to the UK from Poland. For the four young actors, it was their first plane ride and first trip abroad . Their stay in the UK became a true lesson in independence, responsibility, and openness to the world.

Young artists not only performed on stage, but also:

  • learn about the life of the Polish community in Great Britain,

  • visited Peterborough and London ,

  • they lived in a real English house ,

  • tried local flavors (fish and chips were a hit!).

This artistic and life experience was also noticed in Poland – the local media spoke about the young actors’ trip and the project , reporting on activities carried out in cooperation with the Barwy Kultury Foundation.

A partnership without which this project would not have been possible

The production of the "Red, Green, and Yellow" spectacle and the entire program of accompanying activities would not have been possible without the support and commitment of the Young Generations Foundation , which sponsored the project and was responsible for its formal, organizational, and financial implementation. Thanks to the Foundation's professional organizational support, it was possible to efficiently implement all activities, coordinate collaboration with partners, and implement the project at a high substantive and logistical level. This is an example of a partnership in which a shared vision, trust, and experience translated into real social and educational impact.

Theatre as a bridge

"Red, Green, and Yellow" demonstrated the immense power of Polish-language theater —especially abroad. It served as a bridge connecting children with their language, families with their culture, Saturday schools with each other, and young artists with Poland and the Polish diaspora.

For the Polish Music Centre, this was one of those events that confirms the meaning of our work: creating a space in which the Polish language lives, develops and brings joy .

We thank all schools, teachers, parents, children, and partners for their trust and for sharing this special time with us . It was more than just a spectacle. It was a shared experience.
