Children learn language through repetition, listening, and imitating. In exactly the same way.
they learn music. It's no wonder, then, that these two areas complement each other so beautifully.
Singing Polish songs:
• helps to remember new words and expressions,
• practices correct Polish diction,
• develops phonemic hearing,
• expands vocabulary,
• reinforces the natural intonation of the language.
Unlike traditional language exercises, the song is not for the child
"task". It's fun.
Children eagerly return to their favorite melodies and repeat them many times – and each repetition further reinforces vocabulary and language structures.
Moreover, learning to play an instrument (piano, violin, flute, ukulele or
guitar) gives an additional dimension of contact with language. When a child plays and sings at the same time, engages different areas of the brain. The combination of movement, rhythm, melody, and words enhances the process memorising.
In the case of bilingual children who function mainly in the native language on a daily basis
majority, regular contact with Polish songs may be one of the most effective ways to maintain active knowledge of your native language.
Music does not replace conversation, reading or contact with literature - but it can become a beautiful medium for them, a complement.
